When I found myself standing in the middle of an unfamiliar place with no idea where to turn, I looked to my left and a pair of blue eyes met mine. She was a blonde-haired girl walking swiftly down the sidewalk, surrounded by green trees speckled with red leaves. Darkness was fading into the sky as I had a sudden urge of bravery and decided to approach her. Her name is Alli Slonac, and she attends Marquette University. She informed me that I am standing directly in the middle of a college campus that is a second home to nearly 8,000 people from near and far.

I struck up a conversation with Alli, desperately trying to learn more about where I am and who she is. I began to question my surrounding of nature. She explained to me that the trees look the way they do because of the fall season that is approaching. With different weather, nature starts to evolve to fit the seasons appropriately. The sky is fading to a dark blue because the sun that lights the sky I am under rotates around the planet that I am on, Earth. Not even knowing why I am here, I asked Alli why she is here specifically. She tells me her family and her home is only twenty minutes away from this University, and that her family is the most important thing to her. She greatly values and cherishes her relationship with her parents. She points out that Marquette is a very well-known college and can provide her great opportunities for her future.

I wanted to know more about her plan for the future and her mission for this lifetime. She is pursuing higher education at Marquette in the Diedrich College of Communication. Alli hopes to learn more about how humans communicate with each other, strengthen her ability to converse with others, and eventually obtain a job in this field. As a whole, she told me that she wishes to live a life that was worth living. Alli wishes that at the end of her life she will have a fulfilled feeling of purpose in this lifetime. She wishes to leave a lasting impression on Earth, no matter what that might entail. I was curious to find out more regarding what she believes in, and she told me that she believes that life exists after death. That even when it comes time for us to leave our physical bodies, or souls and spirits live on. She said she doesn’t know what exactly happens when we die, and that is just something we will eventually have to figure out for ourselves.

I asked her if she is happy in this life so far, and she told me she was. She elaborates on the fact that of course there are rough patches in life, but at the end of the day, you have to be grateful and appreciative of every little thing. I went on and asked if everyone in this foreign place was happy like her, and she replied no. Alli tells me that some people have it harder than others, and it is hard for them to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
